I guess Skyrim is just sexist. The cause is because you’ve killed that dragon before. Say you go to Shearpoint and kill the “Blood Dragon”. You go back later and kill another Blood Dragon. You won’t get the soul. If the Blood Dragon becomes an Ancient Dragon or higher, you will get the soul.
