The lift numbers above .500 are very good.I talked to Edelbrock for about 20 minutes about these heads, they feel they are more suited towards a 12.5 to 13.5 compression motor ...The longer rod gives more duration at tdc and yes you can run higher comp on them if I rember right. yes you have to use special pistons, it allows you to rev higher but I think if any thing it hurts torque. The 383 is a bit more radical on the heads/cam combo but it still makes all of the power of the 377 but of course has a ton more low end grunt! The 383 runs the numbers with a 2800-3200 stall and the valvetrain doesn't take a beating. The 377 hit's it's best with @ a 5000 stall and shifts are closer to 7800 vs the 383's 7000 shift point.It is going in a 1989 firebird, probably ~3500lbs pretty easily with driver. As a 383 with the following specs, it ran a 7.85 in the 1/8th which should be around a 12.3 in the 1/4. It had a little rumble at idle, but nothing radical. The 383 was a mismatch, so I hope the 406 does a little better.
