I guess you could argue that yellow is harder. In gold if you have an orb it lets you restart from exactly where you died and if you are out of orbs you go back to the last check point. With yellow if you have an orb you go back to the last check point and if not you have to restart the entire mission.

IMO, DMC1 DMD is the most fair and balanced DMD mode of the entire series with DMC3 being the absolute worst. In DMC1 enemies only activate DT after a timer is finished counting down and that’s it. Yellow mode is like dmc 1 when u die u waste an orb and repeat in the last checkpoint. Gold Mode is like dmc 2, u can revive instantly mid combat/ bossfight.
