Depending on the time of year you could take a ferry to nearby Cumberland Island. While in Charleston head across to Mount Pleasant, just across the bridge are some good seafood restaurants there. We usually would stay in North Charleston as its less expensive (about 15 to 20 minutes to Charleston downtown. Don't eat at the Noisy Oyster, very loud, lives up to its name and food not very good.
