John deere 4020 problems.
The 4010 and VERY early (IIRC, pre-'65) 4020 tractors DO have a 3rd reverse. The later early models and on only have 2 reverse gears that are sped up. The the early ones, 1st reverse is the same speed as 3rd forward, 2nd reverse is like 5th and 3rd reverse is like 7th. So, 3rd reverse is 12mph. Great for plowing snow. :rock.

Jul 29, 2016 · Both transmissions were pretty darned tough, but today the newest are 44 years old. I have 2 syncros and 1 power shift (4020s), plus a 2510, 3020, 4320. As far as sales data goes, it is sort of a guess. It would be a fair guess to say in the earlier years, (64-68) the 4020 sales were probably 35-40% power shift.

Now remove the 2 or 3 nuts holding the pump down & pull up.. DONE. If it's a side console tractor it can be in the PTO valve. 4-Plate on the bottom of the rockshaft housing is cracked or loose. 5-possibly an internal leak in the main pump, but not likely. 40/20vision.
