It turned out that the DFI and pinch sensors required replacement. My litter robot was out of warranty, but they sent me a free sensor replacement kit so I could replace it myself. To have them repair it, you would have to send it in and it would cost almost $200 if you don’t have a warranty anymore.

This happened to one of our LR3s recently. I did a thorough clean of the base, heavily spayed the sensors on either side of the base with electronics cleaner (WD40 brand), and took a small brush to the pinch sensor contacts to get out as much grime buildup as I could. It's working now and no replacement parts needed.

This will bypass the system. If the problem is the weight, try disassemble the feet, clean everything and reassemble (also you can adjust the sesitivity by screwing more or less the bolt).Ok I understand your concern. I have only disassembled it to replace parts. I have never had to clean the pinch sensor. Having to do that once a month would be a real hassle.
