FluidDampr is being installed on the new motor before it gets dropped in. After consulting with many folks who work on Duramaxes that seems to be the only common issue with broken cranks is the possibility that the balancer has gone bad. Hopefully will pull it and see what exactly went when I get the truck back.43. Galt, Ca 95632. Jan 9, 2019. #5. The pic shows the reluctor wheel hub and oil pump gear misaligned with the crank. That pin broke for sure. Once you remove that hub then you can see the cam gear and pin. It might be fine, and your issue is just the hub in front of it. You should be able to pull that off with a puller.

Broken cranks seem to be a very rare problem for Duramax's. People would need to have some fairly sophisticated equipment on a running engine to track how harmonics from the camshaft would eventually result in damage to the crank.

About 2 weeks ago on the way to work the truck started bucking violently and died. Pulled codes and got p0366 crank sensor. Took it to a mechanic I know and he replaced crank sensor. It still throws the code after clearing it when cranking. We are getting power and signal from both the crank and cam sensor. The reluctor wheel is tight.

If you have a scanner pull up the cam and crank sensor/signal and see if you’re getting a reading. It's still uck of the draw. Theres HUNDREDS of broken DURAMAX cranks from guys running aftermarket balancers on engine with cirtually no run time. LML's seem to pop around the 150-200K mile mark, others are a gamble.
