I have an 01 duramax that I recently replaced headgaskets in. Shortly after the headgasket job a ticking noise appeared. I think it sounds like a lifter ticking. Possibly a lifter loosened up a little after it has been running. A friend of mine disagrees. He says it is injectors ticking because they are bad. I have no other symptoms.

Seems to be more pronounced from the drivers side. Can’t tell if it’s lower or higher on the engine but seems to be higher. Could be the high pressure fuel pump, it is located in the driver's side front of the engine. If so that is too bad, it can be done, but they are pretty rough to get to.
