The number of first-year MD students has increased by 35% from 2002-2003 to 2020-2021, and this number is projected to reach 41% by 2025-2026 [1]. As of 2019, the number of first-year DO students has increased by 186% compared to 2002 [1].That alone is enough for me to go MD along with step 1 going P/F. Go MD. DO schools intrinsically have 0 advantages over US MD schools. The only case I would consider taking DO over MD is if they gave you a generous scholarship or if it’s in a preferred location (like for example, living close to your family or SO).

Of all the things you will do as a premed, it is quite possibly the only thing med schools do NOT care about. I would recommend starting with your school's prereqs. Definitely go in taking chemistry and lab, and maybe also biology.
