It still works like a new gun, but, after dragging it through the woods for 20 years it is in need of refurbishing. The 601 field model "for the money" Is an Excellent shotgun. It has a rubbed finish on the wood that I believe to be Turkish walnut. We would like to show you a description here but the site won’t allow us.I was glad to find that the Honcho is available in 20 gauge. The 20 gauge shotgun is lighter, faster handling, and offers considerably less recoil than the 12 gauge. While the 12 gauge has the greater payload, the 20 gauge will create an impressive wound at combat distance. Still use a superior grade skeet in 12 gauge on occasion. The Miroku Dalys were well made, hand engraved, but their trigger system ( sic: spring) left me non-plussed with frequent breakage.

If you desire one of the new breeds of short pistol-grip defensive shotguns, the Charles Daly Honcho version is a viable option. Practice is needed for this shotgun, but in 20-gauge, the Honcho offers a viable option. The pump-action 20-gauge, Winchester buckshot, and the H&R line of defensive shotguns are good choices.
