A trick that I've learned to help me cut near perfect stringers is to leave the depth setting on the saw loose and slowly start cutting your line until you are lined up nice and then you can plunge it in full depth, it's easier to correct the angle of your cut when only an 1/4" of the blade is cutting through the material rather than the whole blade.
