The stator does not charge the battery - the rec/reg does that - the stator simply generates AC voltage. Check the AC voltage between the yel and yel/red wires disconnected from the rec/reg at both approx. 2500 and 5000 RPM - then check the AC voltage with the wires connected to the rec/reg and let me know what you measure.

You should be able to measure about 0.6 to 0.7 ohms between any 2 of those wires in 3 different combination's.
