As you have indicated, the butterflies must be absolutely closed. The carbs does not have an 'idle stop' adjustment. The important is to get the carbs starting to open at the timing specified when the arrow on #47 lines up with the roller on the carb (pick up timing). From that point and down in rpm, it is all about reducing timing to get correct idle rpm. Only two timing adjustments to be set: 1: Pick-up timing.

New member. Gday all, recently my idle adjustment at the tiller on my 15hp johnson stopped working. I took a look at it today and couldnt find out the reason why. The adjustment knob at the end spins infinetly. seems as though the plastic thread is either stripped or i have wound the knob off the end of the thread?? does anyone know a repair ...It appears that on my 1993 Johnson 25hp, one has to set the Joe Reeves method at 0 degrees off the factory specified maximum spark advance. Re: Timing on a 1990 Evinrude 150. DHadley correctly describes the results of over advancing a crossflow. I did this in early June to a 90 HP 1988 Evinrude. New wiesco's, after an hour or so of running easy, opened it up for about 10 seconds, RPM was ballistic, no tach, heard what sounded like detonation.

The engine runs great once started but when I start it up it has trouble in low idle. I use the high idle lever to start it, then have to quickly switch into gear when I put the lever down or else it will shut down.
