Most collectors of antique survey instruments knew Dale. He bought and sold some of the rarest instruments around. He had an impressive collection that he sold to Russ Uzes.

At heart the 780 is a rugged R12. They perform pretty much identically. The 780 has a tougher casing, and more weather proofing but is noticeably heavier.
